Baby Boomer Blues

by The Boomer Broads on July 1, 2009

We did everything right, didn’t we?  We paid ourselves first…tucking a little cash into the bank every two weeks even though we wanted to buy that new shirt, those rad jeans, that great CD, those theatre tickets. We diversified.  We used coupons…or, in my case, we cut out the coupons and then lost them.  We maxed out our 401ks and our IRAs.  We saved for a rainy day, but had no idea it was going to pour buckets, did we?  I, along with my fellow boomers, am pissed.  I should have and would have had a much better time in my 20s and 30s had I known that the recession was coming in my 50s.  Why no notice?  Where was the email?  Was it spammed?  It’s not that I envisioned weeks and months of golf and daquiris by the pool in my 60s…but I could have lived with a couple of days here and there.  Sigh.  So to Bernie Madoff, George W. Bush, General Motors, AIG, Enron and the lot of you sorry excuses, I lift my finger and it’s not my pinky.
