As boomers, we are the Kennedy generation. I was seven when John Kennedy was shot — Anne-Marie was 18. I was 12 when Robert Kennedy was shot — Anne-Marie was 23. Many of the Kennedy kids are our ages. The Kennedys are truly a family most closely associated with Baby Boomers like us. We grew up with them. When John Jr. died, we all felt like we lost a son. Now, with Ted’s death, we feel like we’ve lost a father or an uncle or a caring big brother.
It is hard to fathom that with Ted’s death, all the brothers are now gone. What an empty, sad feeling. So hoped that Ted could have lived to see his dream of “health care for all” come true. Whether it does of course is very up in the air, but no matter what you wanted to see that white-haired lion in the middle of the fight.
So often when someone dies you say “we hardly knew you.” Not with Ted. We knew him. He was a great man. A great Senator. A great father and a great uncle. We knew him and we will miss him. Here’s to you, Senator Kennedy. RIP.
